Aston Villa table bid for next signing as Dean Smith continues spending spree
ASTON VILLA have tabled a £7m bid for Burnley star Tom Heaton.
The Villans have splashed the cash since getting promoted to the Premier League.
Dean Smith has made six signings, with Wesley Moraes, Matt Targett, Kortney Hause, Anwar El Ghazi, Jota and Tyrone Mings all completing moves to Villa Park.
Villa broke their transfer record for Wesley, with the Midlands club splashing out £22m on the striker.
Mings, El Ghazi and Hause all joined permanently after impressing in the Championship last season.
Aston Villa have tabled a £7m bid for Burnley star Tom Heaton
And according to The Sun, Smith is eyeing his next signing.
They claim Villa have made a £7m bid for Burnley goalkeeper Heaton, who is unsettled at Turf Moor.
Heaton, 33, has rejected Burnley’s latest contract offer, putting newly-promoted Villa on red alert.
The Sun add that Burnley will demand more than £7m for Heaton if the England international opts to quit the club.
Heaton is a cheaper alternative to Jack Butland and Neil Etheridge.
The Stoke and Cardiff goalkeepers are targets for Smith, as the Villa boss looks to land a new No. 1 this summer.
Smith is set to overhaul his defence at Villa Park, with Mings, Targett and Frederic Guilbert set to slot into the back four in front of a new keeper.
Villa signed right-back Guilbert in January but loaned the 24-year-old back Caen.
The Villans are also hoping to land Bristol City centre-back Adam Webster, who was named the club’s Player of the Year last time out.
Villa fan favourite Mings returned to the club this week on a permanent deal, with the defender revealing he’s ready to build on last season.
Mings, 26, said: “I am delighted to come back and hopefully build on what we did last year.
“Promotion was a great day for everyone connected with the club – I have watched the highlights back a few times. It will stay with me for a very long time.
“It is the biggest achievement of my career for sure. To go to Wembley and win is something you dream of doing.
“I made it no secret I really enjoyed my time here and there was no-where else I wanted to go. I can't wait to start, it has been a long summer waiting for it to happen. I am looking forward to testing ourselves against the best in the country.
“When you dream about getting from the Championship to the Premier League you dream about playing to nice stadiums, and having great days out where you win as the underdog.
“So to go and test yourself against a team like Tottenham first game will be absolutely perfect.
“Everybody should be looking forward to it and relishing the challenge against teams like this.”
