Man Utd set to launch £70m bid for Aubameyang claims pundit
Manchester United are in the market for a new striker with Romelu Lukaku nearing a move to Italy with Inter Milan.
Marcus Rashford is set to be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s main forward next season after signing an extended contract on Monday, but Aubameyang’s potential arrival could prompt a change in system.
However, that deal could be scrapped by United bosses for two reasons, one of which that involves a previous transfer from Arsenal.
The Mirror have reported that Alexis Sanchez’s move to Old Trafford from the Emirates in 2018 is putting the club off signing older players, with Aubameyang having turned 30 earlier this month.
Another reason the deal might be shelved is the wage that the Gabon international will have to be paid.
United’s wage budget is already stretched with Sanchez likely to remain the club’s best player for the remainder of his contract, with Solskjaer keen to avoid the mistakes made in handing out expensive long-term deals with no guarantees of good performances.
United have already spent £65million in the current transfer window with their Norwegian boss keen to prompt a change in fortunes.
One deal that is more likely than the one for Aubameyang is for Sporting midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

Fernandes, 24, has already been the subject of a rejected bid from United, with Italian La Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Nicolo Schira giving an update on Sunday.
He said: “Manchester United have offered to Sporting €35M (£31m) for Bruno Fernandes.
“Contacts ongoing, but Sporting want more. For him is ready a contract by €6M (£5.4) a year plus bonuses.”
