Arsenal dropped BIG team selection clue shortly before Chelsea Europa League final
ARSENAL legend Martin Keown has noticed a big clue towards the Gunners’ team selection against Chelsea in the Europa League final.
Chelsea vs Arsenal: Martin Keown discusses Gunners' lineup
Keown is in Baku for the Europa League final, working as a pundit for BT Sport.
He was at the stadium on Tuesday evening as Arsenal trained for the last time before the match.
And the former defender noticed how head coach Unai Emery set up his team with a back four in defence.
Emery has switched between four at the back and three throughout his first season in charge at the Emirates.
Tonight’s training session he had two banks of four against two banks of four
Keown believes the Spaniard should go with three against Chelsea, however the training session may suggest differently.
“I think the biggest problem really is whether it’s going to be a three or is it going to be a four,” Keown said on Tuesday.
“Twenty-three times this season he has changed from one system to the other, that is unbelievable.
“Okay it demonstrates the players are good tactically and can make those changes, but it’s just too much.
“So that’s the difficulty really, is it a three?
“He hasn’t got a good enough partnership with his central defenders.
“So what he’s done he’s played with a three, I’m predicting that is what he’s going to do.
“Tonight’s training session he had two banks of four against two banks of four.
“It was a back four [in the win over Chelsea in January].”
Whatever the defensive setup, Keown says the strike-force of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette will be vital for Arsenal.
“But not to get obsessed with that, we should look at the top of the team,” Keown continued.
“They’ve now worked out that Aubameyang and Lacazette have to play together.
“I think the last eight goals Arsenal have scored in this competition have come from those two.”
