Strictly: Chris exposes what Diane said to her father

Chris McCausland has revealed the six-word remark Dianne Buswell made upon discovering she would be partnering with him on Strictly Come Dancing. The comment was made just hours after their debut Foxtrot was awarded a solid 29 points by the judges.

The 22nd series of Strictly Come Dancing is shaping up to become one of the fiercest competitions in BBC history and with weeks left, the coveted Glitterball Trophy is still anyone’s game. After a solid start in the reality TV show, Chris, 47, and Dianne, 35, are currently sitting in sixth place on the leaderboard with a combined score of 52.

The day after dancing to ‘Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy’ by The Tams, the pair appeared on the Week 2 Results show where they waved farewell to the first casualties of the season, Team GB swimmer Tom Dean and Nadiya Bychkova. Ahead of the couple’s elimination, Chris and Dianne discussed the support they’d received since making their ballroom debut.

In conversation with Claudia Winkleman, 52, on Sunday (September 29), Chris reported Dianne’s family had been sending over clips of encouragement for the duo. He said that in one clip his professional partner’s father, Mark Buswell, had accidentally “let the cat out of the bag” regarding his daughter’s true feelings on their pairing.

Chris said: “He let it slip that when Dianne was paired with me - even though she claimed she wanted to be with me - she said to her dad: ‘Don’t worry dad, winning isn’t everything’.” After the backstage stars burst into a fit of giggles, Dianne said: “Look who is laughing now!”.

Chris quipped: “I don’t know who is laughing,” which earned him further raucous applause.

The Strictly competitors have previously used Dianne’s “winning isn’t everything” line to their advantage this season, raking in support after announcing the phrase as their official ‘Team Name’.

Ahead of their Week 1 Cha Cha to ‘Twist and Shout’ by The Beatles, Chris and the Aussie dancer took to Instagram and said: “We’ve decided after the popularity of our video about your dad we’ve decided to call ourselves ‘Winning is not that important.”

“No,” corrected Dianne. “It’s ‘Winning Isn’t Everything’.

In the video’s caption, the star wrote: “Ladies and gentleman we have settled on our team name !!!!!!!! What do we think? Let’s get the # going tonight.”

Fans were quick to praise the pair for their moniker, with one typing: “Team winning isn’t everything are my winners; I love ‘em to bits.”

A second commented: “Team winning isn’t everything are my winners; I love ‘em to bits.”

“If I hear WINNING isn’t everythinggggg while watching tonight I will be in tears,” replied someone else.

Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell will dance again on the next instalment of Strictly Come Dancing on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. Tune in on Saturday from 6.25pm.
