Man Utd sent Longstaff transfer message by Newcastle with Solskjaer keen to spend
MANCHESTER UNITED will struggle to sign Sean Longstaff from Newcastle this summer, as Rafa Benitez won’t allow the club to cash in on the young midfielder.
Newcastle simply cannot afford to let either of them go
Doubts had been looming over the futures of Mo Diame, Isaac Hayden and Jonjo Shelvey.
Diame is expected to leave this summer on a free transfer after his contract expires, while Isaac Hayden has told Benitez he wants to move further south for personal reasons.
Shelvey, meanwhile, has struggled for game time this season, and has said he may have to leave for guaranteed first-team football.
That would leave only Longstaff and Ki Sung-yueng in the centre of midfield, and Newcastle simply cannot afford to let either of them go.

It was part of his plan to bring younger talent to the club as he looks to rebuild the squad.
It had previously been reported that United would have to offer Newcastle more than £20 million to secure Longstaff’s signature.
He signed a new four-year-deal with Newcastle in December, to keep him in the North-East until 2023.
