Man Utd boss Solskjaer said three BRUTAL things to squad in private ahead of Man City game
MANCHESTER UNITED manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said three brutal things to his squad ahead of today’s match against Manchester City, according to reports.
Man United: Solskjaer looks ahead to Man City derby
Manchester United boss Solskjaer is aiming for victory over Manchester City after seeing his side lose six out of their last eight matches against all competitions.
The Red Devils were flying under the 46-year-old a month ago, with a 3-1 Champions League win over PSG the highlight of his managerial reign so far.
Since then, however, Manchester United have taken their eye off the ball with Barcelona, Wolves, Arsenal and Everton all putting them to the sword.
And The Sun say Solskjaer said three brutal things to the squad after their 4-0 defeat to Everton on Sunday afternoon.
It is said he ordered them to give their all against City tonight.
Any United win would prompt mixed emotions as it would likely give Liverpool the advantage in the Premier League title race.
But Solskjaer feels United players have to step up and be counted - or he will offload them at the end of the season.
The Norwegian also supposedly told his squad that March’s Champions League win over PSG now meant nothing.
And Solskjaer also questioned their passion and whether his United stars actually wanted to finish in the top four.
The Sun say the 46-year-old ‘went mad’ at his players after the Everton mauling.
And, speaking ahead of tonight’s showdown with Manchester City at Old Trafford, Solskjaer admitted his side were not currently up to scratch.
"I don't think we've got the consistency to do that," Solskjaer said when asked if United can fight City and Liverpool for the title next season.
"Over the last 18 games, we're not far away from them but it's doing it over the course of a season.
“We've done it for half a season now. Let's see. You can never say never.
"You cannot expect things to happen overnight and we know that. It will happen gradually and we have to be realistic enough as a club that we have to take it step by step.
"That's not changing 10 players now and bringing 10 players in. It's slowly, slowly but surely.
“It has to be the right quality, right personality, the right standards to get us back to where we want to be."
