Mauricio Pochettino a better option for Man Utd because of Liverpool and Man City - Burley
MAURICIO POCHETTINO would have a much better chance of closing the gap on Liverpool and Manchester City than current Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Man United: Pochettino better option than Solskjaer says Burley
That is the opinion of ESPN FC pundit and former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley.
Solskjaer is the favourite to become the next permanent manager of Manchester United.
The Norwegian has surprised most with the start he has made to his interim role at Old Trafford.
United are in the quarter-final of the Champions League and with a strong chance of finishing in the Premier League top four.
If it wasn’t Man United and there was another club to be managed, and there was a choice between Solskjaer and Pochettino, it’s not even close
But despite that, Burley still believes Mauricio Pochettino would be more suited to the role.
The Tottenham was initially the frontrunner to replace the sacked Jose Mourinho in December.
Burley believes the Argentine would be able to spend United’s big budget wiser than Solskjaer could.
And he reckons Pochettino can bring the Red Devils closer to their rivals Liverpool and Manchester City.
“If it wasn’t Man United and there was another club to be managed, and there was a choice between Solskjaer and Pochettino, it’s not even close,” Burley said.
“It’s Pochettino.
“So why should it be different because it’s his former club?
“Over a short period at the moment he has done a great job.
“But who would you prefer to try and peg back, with a big budget, [Jurgen] Klopp and [Pep] Guardiola?
“I think Pochettino would be the answer, with a big budget.”
United are currently 18 points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool and 16 adrift of City.
