Real Madrid: Ronaldo exit means Asensio can step up says pundit
Real Madrid star Asensio is currently flourishing, with the Spain international benefitting from Ronaldo’s decision to join Juventus back in July.
The 33-year-old opted to jump ship to Turin in order to achieve pay parity with Lionel Messi and Neymar.
Real Madrid opted against signing a direct replacement but Asensio has instead stepped up, bagging the winner in their 1-0 La Liga victory over Espanyol last night.
He has, however, revealed he was not offered the chance to take Ronaldo’s iconic No 7 shirt.
When the player first signed from Manchester United nine years ago, he was given the No 9 jersey.
However, once Raul jumped ship to Bundesliga side Schalke, Cristiano Ronaldo got the number he craved.
The no 7 shirt is now iconic for Real in the same way it is for United.
Yet Asensio was not given the opportunity to wear it with Mariano Diaz, who struck a stunner in the Champions League in midweek, instead securing it.

"They didn't offer me the No. 7," he said.
"The club never said anything to me about it.
“I didn't have the chance to decide."
Asensio has, however, talked up the No 10 shirt.
