Cristiano Ronaldo: Juventus star ‘in uncomfortable situation’ after Lionel Messi decision
CRISTIANO RONALDO is ‘in a uncomfortable situation’ after Lionel Messi’s decision to attend FIFA’s Best Player gala, reports have claimed.
Juventus: Cristiano Ronaldo scores FIRST goal for new club
Ronaldo left Real Madrid for Juventus this summer and, in the process, sacrificed his decade-long rivalry with Messi.
For over 10 years now, the two players have battled it out for club and country, always with the game’s individual awards in mind.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi face a new threat for prizes, though, in the form of Real midfielder Luka Modric.
Modric recently pipped Ronaldo to the UEFA’s Best Player prize - something the 33-year-old was livid about - following his exploits for Croatia at the World Cup in Russia.
Ronaldo chose not to attend Modric’s celebrations due to his anger at missing out.
Lionel Messi, meanwhile, did not even make the shortlist.
Yet Ok Diario claim the Barcelona star is willing to attend the FIFA awards in order to save face.
It is claimed, though, that Messi’s decision to attend has left Ronaldo in a difficult situation.
The report claims the Juventus star is hesitant about going.
He supposedly feels that Modric will likely reign supreme again and, as a result, feels he should not have to attend for a silver medal.
But Ok Diario claim Ronaldo is also livid with football’s governing bodies in general.
The player was dismissed on his Champions League debut for Juventus in midweek.
The 33-year-old received his marching orders following a clash with Jeison Murillo, despite there being little contact.
Yet Ronaldo feels persecuted and, as a result, may snub the FIFA bash altogether.
The player is, however, back in action this afternoon.
Juventus are aiming to continue their unbeaten start to Serie A when they face Frosinone today (7.30pm).
