Man Utd news: Pundit gives verdict on United’s biggest problem… it’s not Mourinho or Pogba
MANCHESTER UNITED’s biggest problem is not Jose Mourinho or Paul Pogba - it is rivals Manchester City.
That is according to ESPN FC pundit and former Venezuela international Alejandro Moreno.
Manchester United boss Mourinho and midfielder Pogba have frequently hit the headlines of late.
The pair’s relationship had reportedly hit an all-time low last week, though this has been refuted by the club and Mourinho.
United lost to Brighton on Sunday to increase speculation over Mourinho’s future at the club, with him being installed as the favourite to lose his job first in the Premier League.
Their biggest issue is Manchester City. Manchester City, and Liverpool, but Manchester City in particular
But Moreno does not think talk about Mourinho or Pogba is the biggest issue and instead is reigning Premier League champions and local rivals City.
“Do you know what Manchester United’s biggest issue is?,” Moreno said.
“It’s not Mourinho, it’s not Pogba, it’s not whatever’s going on in the locker room, it’s not Ed Woodward, it’s not all the things people are talking about.
“Their biggest issue is Manchester City. Manchester City, and Liverpool, but Manchester City in particular.
“They are separating themselves from the rest and they’re miles ahead of Manchester United at this point.
“While they can focus on all the things in-house, Manchester City continue to do what they do, they look good doing it, with style, winning, entertaining and producing.”
City have won their opening two fixtures of the season against Arsenal and Huddersfield.
And Moreno’s fellow pundit Paul Mariner says City are “torture” for United fans at the moment.
“The rivalry between Liverpool and Man United is absolutely storied,” Mariner said.
“Man City were never in the mix, but now with (Pep) Guardiola, the way he’s spent, the football that he’s playing, it’s absolute torture for Manchester United fans.”
United's next match is against Tottenham next Monday at Old Trafford.
Spurs, like City, have also won their first two games of the season.
