In the latest instalment of the teatime quiz, Alexander, 47, explained he was losing his voice, which led to jokes from Richard about what that could mean for his singing career.
The 46-year-old brainbox teased: "For a man like you that [a voice] is important. What if this is the end now? What if its finally gone so you can't do another album?"
"Oh no, that would be awful," he sarcastically added.
A trained baritone, Alexander released two classical studio albums in 2015 and 2016, A Year of Songs and Upon a Different Shore.

We'll get a trained chimp in
As the game show progressed, the presenter's voice began to weaken further, prompting fears it might be gone completely before the end.
Richard grinned: "I can't wait for the end of the show. This is going to get worse and worse I think."
"What if I can't make it till the final round?" Alexander replied.
Luckily, Richard said he was ready for that eventuality and had prepared a stand-in.

"I've got it covered, we'll get a trained chimp in," he joked. "Actually it doesn't need to be trained, just house trained."
Alexander managed to struggle through to the final round, where contestants John and Louis took home the £2,250 jackpot.
Pointless airs weekdays at 5.15pm on BBC One.
