The 43-year-old, who has played kindhearted Sam Dingle in the Leeds-based soap since 1995, revealed his Mercedes had been taken from his home in Yeadon.
James appealed to friends to help him find the car in a Facebook post after the incident.
He wrote: “Car stolen! Mercedes Benz E63 reg no. BG65ZFC Black with black wheels, stolen from Yeadon tonight between 6.30pm and 8.30pm!
“Went to my daughter’s Christmas carol concert and came home to find it gone! Worst thing is it was due to go back tomorrow morning so I spent a day valeting and cleaning it to within an inch of its life! BUMP!”

In a comment on the post, James explained that the thieves had broken into his home, taken the car keys and driven off.
However, he said he was relieved the family were not at home during the incident.
“It’s only a piece of metal at the end of the day. Glad we weren’t in when they came round,” he reasoned.
James and his fiancee Nancy Lucas have two daughters, Lily, nine, and Ava-Rose, 11 months.
