The Repair Shop viewers notice major change as star is removed from opening credits

The Repair Shop caused quite a stir on Wednesday night (September 18) as avid TV watchers noticed a big change minutes into the show.

Jay Blades missing from The Repair shop credits

Fans of BBC's hit show The Repair Shop were quick to notice a major alteration during the latest episode as presenter Jay Blades was missing from the opening credits.

The much-loved programme which sees guests bring their broken or damaged family heirlooms to the famous workshop to hopefully gain a new lease of life, was fronted by host Jay since it first aired in 2017.

However, fans noticed that he was axed from the line-up on Wednesday's episode (September 18) and the format had completely changed. Heading over to X formerly known as Twitter in their droves fans shared their thoughts on the shakeup.

One viewer said: "Noticing a big lack of Jay the opening few minutes. A bit of an impromptu trimming after recent headlines huh?"

Another viewer said: "Well that looks like the end of Jay Blades on the #repairshop. No sign of him on tonight’s episode so I reckon he’s already been edited out."

A third penned: "Jay Blades unsurprisingly removed from the opening montage," while someone else pointed out: "Heavy edit to remove Jay from the opening montage."

Meanwhile, another fan insisted that the show must go on. They added: "#TheRepairShop should continue without Jay Blades. The show is bigger than any one individual. The format is what makes the show popular with viewers, and makes it into a ratings winner, not Mr Blades."

Last week, Jay, 54, was charged with "controlling and coercive behaviour" towards his estranged wife, Lisa Zbozen, 43. The recent scandal led to a major shakeup at the BBC.

After the recent court proceedings, the BBC pulled episodes of The Repair Shop which starred Jay. They also told The Sun: "The Beeb won't feature any new shows in which he appears until it is clear how legal proceedings conclude."

Applications are now open for the next series of the show, with the network stating: "Our award-winning series The Repair Shop is returning to BBC One. Our team of Britain's most passionate and skilled craftspeople will rescue broken objects and restore them to their former glory."

Jay appeared in court last week, facing allegations of "controlling and coercive behaviour" that spanned 20 months. The charges claim his actions had a profound impact on his wife.

The couple's relationship began to unravel after Lisa shared a heartbreaking post on social media, revealing that she was "very broken" just months after they exchanged vows in a Barbados wedding ceremony in November 2022.

The Repair Shop airs Wednesdays at 8pm on BBC One.
