A Place in the Sun's Jasmine Harman 'disappointed' after buyers 'hate' property

A Place in the Sun presenter Jasmine Harman was left feeling "disappointed" as a couple were forced to give up on their search for a holiday home in Gran Canaria after struggling to find their dream property

A Place in the Sun house hunters say 'it's been a struggle'

A Place in the Sun's Jasmine Harman was met with a daunting challenge on Wednesday's Channel 4 episode, as she ventured to the stunning Canary Islands on a mission to help retired architect Nick and journalist Tim bid farewell to Britain's icy winters for a sun-kissed haven.

After enjoying nine blissful years together by Cornwall's seaside, the pair craved a place under the Canarian sun where they could lounge away from the chilly UK weather.

Armed with a respectable £250,000, the couple put their hopes in Jasmine to unearth the holiday home of their dreams from her selection of five properties.

The search seemed uphill as Jasmine admitted: "Property on Gran Canaria does not come cheap and the much sought-after south of the island is around 25 percent more expensive than the north.", reports the Mirror.

"Eyeing up a sea-view one-bedroom apartment? That'll start you at around £250,000. Not to mention, the market's red-hot right now my house hunters had better be ready to splurge."

Talking about their affection for Gran Canaria, Tim enthused: "It's the variety here from the lush forest in the north and the rocky outcrops up there to these sunbaked beaches down in the south.

"The house would need to be on its own, with no neighbours and it would be in a beautiful spot where we could see a westerly setting sun in the evening."

Nick remarked: "The house - we want something that's very small and we are only looking for a one-bedroom, we don't want acres of land and we don't want a project."

Jasmine then showed the couple a secluded one-bedroom abode nestled in the mountains near Puerto de Mogan. Despite its compact size, the property boasted two bathrooms, eight and a half acres of land, and even came with a pick-up truck.

However, Jasmine had to admit a drawback as the house lacked the desired sea view, confessing: "I have a confession though and you may already have worked it out, it's not West-facing."

Tim responded: "Yes we worked that one out. I'm almost prepared to give up the West for the view of those mountains."

Despite appreciating the remote location, Nick and Tim were underwhelmed by the house itself.

Their property hunt seemed to hit another snag when the third option, located near Fataga, failed to impress once more, with the couple criticising the interior as "too fake" due to its plastic features.

A disheartened Jasmine expressed her feelings: "I'm so disappointed that you've come in and you literally hate it."

Addressing the camera, she added: "Honestly I'm so disappointed because outside I thought this place could be brilliant for them but the property itself just doesn't live up to their standards."

In the end, Tim admitted: "It has been a bit of a struggle."

To which Jasmine quickly interjected: "You don't have to tell me that."

She queried: "So what is the plan, what are you going to do next? " The couple disclosed that they wouldn't be making an offer on any of the properties and would extend their stay for another week to continue their search.

Jasmine confessed: "That's got to be one of my trickiest house hunters ever but I feel good that Nick and Tim are on that path and I really hope that they find their perfect little gem here in Gran Canaria."

A Place in the Sun airs weekdays at 3pm on Channel 4.
