Antiques Roadshow: Lisa Lloyd estimates rugby top is worth £25,000 or more
During a classic episode of Antiques Roadshow, the audience were left speechless after expert Lisa Lloyd revealed a surprise £30,000 valuation.
Fiona Bruce and her fellow experts visited Cathays Park in Cardiff Wales and uncovered a whole load of treasures that the guests brought along to the roadshow.
However, it was a rugby shirt that grabbed the attention of expert Lisa. One guest brought in a number of rugby-related items including a shirt that belonged to Cardiff rugby captain Gwyn Nicholls, who played against New Zealand in 1905.
Among the other items was a Memoriam card that was given to New Zealand when they lost the match, a touch flag that would have been used on the day and Lisa revealed that it was one of two that had been made.
The expert explained: "Right now we have to talk about values.” Pointing at the Memoriam Card, she continued: “I suspect that there are quite a few of these still in circulation but it’s a great novelty.”
Estimating how much it would go for she revealed: “Perhaps you know £100 to £200 on that.”
Moving onto the touch flag, Lisa said: “This would obviously be the only one in existence so that’s probably going to be mid-hundreds, maybe £400 to £600, something in that region.”
However, it was the price of the rugby shirt that left everyone shocked, the expert went on: “These really early rugby shirts, you know they do command extremely high prices.

“Another shirt from the same match was sold a number of years ago for £19,000 but this one because it actually belonged to the caption of the day, obviously that’s going to command a higher price than that.”
Lisa then revealed: “So you are probably looking at about £25,000 to £30,000 on that.”
The crowd gasped and started clapping as the man was left speechless.
Antiques Roadshow airs on BBC and is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
