Vikings Valhalla season three will soon be dropping on Netflix but why is the hit show ending?

It’s been more than a year since subscribers saw Freydis come out on top in her fight against leader Herakr (Bradley James), freeing the people of Jomsborg at last.

Now, the wait is almost over for Vikings Valhalla season three, although its return is bittersweet, given that it was announced in 2023 that it would be the drama’s final series.

Why is Vikings Valhalla ending on Netflix after season 3?

Following the spin-off’s first season coming out in 2022, Vikings Valhalla was quickly given a double renewal with series two dropped onto the streamer in January 2023.

There had been speculation as to why the drama was ending after just three seasons but going by the comments of showrunner Jeb Stuart, this may have always been the intention.

In a statement, Stuart explained: “I hope when the audience gets to see the new season, they’ll be excited by all the new heights that we’ve taken these heroes.

“When we started this project 5 years ago, I worked hard with this incredible cast and crew to craft a journey that we all hoped would be satisfying.”

He added: “Of course with real historical figures, there are always more aspects of their lives that could be explored, but it made sense story-wise for our Leif, Freydis and Harald’s voyages to end with our third season.

“And we really cannot wait for the fans to see the conclusion of this chapter of history.”
