The Boys fans 'work out' major character's downfall as betrayal may soon be uncovered

*Warning - The following article contains spoilers from The Boys season 4, episode 5.*

The Boys fans are convinced that one of the show’s minor background characters could end up being a member of The Seven’s undoing. It comes after season 4, episode 5 of the Amazon Prime show left viewers sobbing, as we watched Hughie Campbell’s (Jack Quaid) dad Hugh Sr (Simon Pegg) bid a tear-jerking farewell.

However, there were plenty of laughs as well, as we were also treated to scenes of deadly flying sheep descending on the gang. Desperate to get their hands on a virus that can kill Supes, the boys liberate former Vought boss Stan Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito) so that he can help them find Victoria Neuman's (Claudia Doumit) secret laboratory.

During their trip to the farmland where animals are being tested, things soon go pear-shaped, as they make the terrifying discovery that compound V has leaked into the water system. This has resulted in a race of suped-up, blood-thirsty chickens and sheep and a hilarious and gory high-speed chase through the farm ensues.

While the animal scenes were important on their own, as they lead the boys to discover that the Supe-killing virus actually works, some fans think they also foreshadow at least one of The Seven’s downfall.

At the beginning of this season, we learn that The Deep (Chace Crawford) is keeping the octopus he is having a creepy romantic relationship within a hidden tank in his bedroom - despite assuring his fellow members of The Seven that he has “dealt with it”.

The octopus, who is named Ambrosius and voiced by legendary actress Tilda Swinton, crops up every now and then on the show, expressing its frustration at The Deep’s emotional distance and about having to be kept a secret in such a small tank.

Meanwhile, The Deep has been coldly betraying his octopus lover when he goes out to work, engaging in a sexual relationship with new member of The Seven, Sister Sage (Susan Heyward).

What will happen if the octopus finds out what’s going on? Some fans think it could lead to both characters’ demise.

One viewer posted the following theory to Reddit: “The octopus is going to cause The Deep's downfall or death.

“It's classic Chekov's gun. I feel like she wants to escape the container she's in to expose or kill The Deep.

“In her eyes it's unfair how he gets to live an amazing life while she's forced to live in a tiny box. Maybe I'm wrong but I definitely think there's a reason she keeps popping up.” (sic)

While another fan thought Ambrosius would take out her anger on Sister Sage, writing: “I have been thinking. I wonder if the octopus will end up being the one to kill Sage when she learns of the affair?

“I was thinking this is maybe why they keep playing up her not having ‘super’ power in terms of durability?” (sic)

Other fans pointed out that, having seen what V did to the sheep and chickens in episode 5, Ambrosius could gain terrifying superpowers.

“Imagine if the octopus ends up getting V in its system. We saw what V does to animals,” one person theorised.

While another added: “Imagine a V'd up octopus going on a rampage. That would be cool!”

“Octopus will kill Sage 100%,” another fan insisted. “And it will be so ridiculous that Sage would never expect it. Her plans will most likely not include; ‘beware of a jealous octopus’.

“It would be so amazing to see her get outsmarted by an octopus,” one more agreed.

Will the octopus cause problems for The Deep later down the line? We’ll just have to wait and see.
