BBC Breakfast: Sally and Ben introduce Tuesday's show

BBC Breakfast fans complained and demanded for Naga Munchetty to take over the show as Jon Kay was replaced during Tuesday's episode (July 2). Viewers at home are used to seeing Jon host the early morning programme with Sally Nugent at the start of the week.

The presenting pair are normally at the helm of the BBC show from Monday until Wednesday as they discuss the latest headlines in the Salford-based studio. But today, Jon was nowhere to be seen with Ben Thompson stepping in to fill his shoes.

With just two days to go until the General Election, on July 4, BBC Breakfast welcomed on a host of MPs, including SNP's Westminster leader Stephen Flynn. Current Prime Minister and Conservatives leader Rishi Sunak was also due to appear on the show, with viewers doubting Sally and Ben's interviewing skills for such a mammoth task.

Posting to X (formerly Twitter) one user wrote: "Wonder who is going to interview Rishi ...need Naga on #bbcbreakfast." Another user replied: "#bbcbreakfast Dreary Ben, I reckon..."

A third added: "Wait till Sally interviews Rishi. Couldn't they have got Naga on ffs."

Others were just plainly unimpressed with Ben replacing Jon. One user penned: "Oh, give it a rest dopey Ben #BBCBreakfast."

Another said: "#BBCBreakfast Ben- Err, erm., errrr, he’s a stuttering mess.. it’s been great not having him on."

It's not the only presenter shake up the BBC show has had recently. Last month, Sally was replaced by Sarah Campbell, following the death of her close friend and sportsman Rob Burrows.

Jon addressed the temporary change as he posted to his social media account, saying: "Good morning from your BBC Breakfast team. Lovely to have Sarah with us - covering for Sally this week."

Sally, who knew Rob and is said to have become friends with his family, had promoted a segment of Rob's bereaved wife being interviewed by the BBC Breakfast team to her X account the previous day before giving the show a miss.

At the time of Rob's death, Sally, 52, shared a number of pictures of the rugby League legend. Some of the images showed him enjoying time with his family, another showed him watching a match and one final picture showed a sweet message that he had penned to his family.

BBC Breakfast airs each days at 6am on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
