Stars of This Morning have faced a huge amount of backlash in recent months, with the latest aimed at Cat Deeley.

The 47-year-old came under fire after she joked that she was having a "seizure" while dancing during Monday's instalment (June 17) of the award-winning programme.

The following day, Cat took the opportunity to publicly apologise for the remark that many found offensive. The presenter began: "First of all, I just wanted to apologise to anyone who was offended yesterday when I made a light-hearted comment about my dancing.

"It really wasn't meant to cause any upset to anybody but I can see why that might have been the case, so I do apologise. I'm very sorry."

Cat's co-host Ben Shephard backed her claim, adding: "It would never be our intention with it," before Cat insisted: "It didn't come from that place at all."

Last month, Dermot O'Leary was forced to apologise after fans claimed the show wasn't taking nut allergies seriously.

The former X Factor presenter, 51, insisted that they take allergies "very seriously" before explaining This Morning was going to be doing a "special segment" on nut allergies the following week.

Following the heavy backlash, Express.co.uk spoke to PR Expert Rochelle White, who suggested This Morning has become slightly "too comfortable" over the years.

Asked about the recent backlash, Rochelle said: "I feel that with shows that have been long-standing become too comfortable.

"Do I think that's what happened here, a little bit. These topics impact people's lives on a daily basis and should be treated with seriousness. Even if you don't suffer from it."

Explaining how the show has changed since it first began, Rochelle continued: "This Morning back in the day used to cover many serious topics with great care and insight and over time, this seems to have been lost, not completely but somewhat.

The expert added: "This can make viewers, loyal ones at that, become a bit turned off the show and presenters, which is never good when you need the viewership. Not to mention the social media backlash.

"These topics need to be approached with care and caution and be able to answer questions that the public will want to know and learn from."
