BBC Springwatch branded 'brutal' by Richard Osman as fans left 'scarred for life'
BBC viewers tuned into another instalment of Springwatch this evening, but some were left disturbed by the content.
Springwatch: Fans backlash as snake eats up young chick
Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan returned to screens on Tuesday evening to present the latest instalment of Springwatch on BBC Two, which caught the attention of presenter and author Richard Osman due to its "brutal" content.
During the episode, the pair gave updates on a blue tit chick which was the only one of its nest to survive as well as barn owl chicks which had parasites under their unformed wings in nests full of moths and other insects.
By the end of the episode, Michaela said with hope in her voice: "We will be keeping our eyes on our kestrels, the two remaining ones, to see when they fly."
Pointless host Richard couldn't resist commenting on the programme this evening on Twitter in light of his 1.2 million followers, comparing it to the drama Game Of Thrones.
He wrote after watching upsetting scenes: "This series of #Springwatch is absolutely brutal. It's like 'Game Of Thrones' out there."

His remark sparked a large reaction online, with one fan replying: "It's shocking like a bl**dy Tarantino film."
Adam noted: "I’ve been saying that since the first episode of this year’s series #GameofThrones #Springwatch."
Another quipped: "Winter is coming….but so is Autumn Watch."
A fourth remarked: "The Peregrine Falcons scarred me for life."
Helen commented: "Me and my husband were sat at a picnic bench the other week watching a fledgling blue tit.
"It was calling out for food and my husband was worried but I said not to worry it’s parents would be near…seconds later a jackdaw zoomed in and flew off with it! GoT sums it up!" (sic)
Chris alerted viewers while an episode turned deadly as he narrated the death of chicks.
He and Michaela shared the devastating announcement on Monday's episode that their reed bunting chicks were killed after a snake attacked them.
Chris explained: “We are able to witness things which we aren't always able to see. Some things are absolutely fascinating, and our duty of course is to report all of this to you and to show you what is really happening out here. We tell you the complete truth.”
