Springwatch: Fans backlash as snake eats up young chick

As a new episode of Springwatch aired on BBC Two on Monday evening, viewers were all left asking the same thing after a format change sparked backlash on social media.

The show usually airs a segment called Mindful Moment which is a serene, peaceful section where the camera pans the most beautiful moments in nature.

However, Monday's instalment didn't feature this and was instead replaced by snake attacks, which prompted fans to question where the missing segment was.

They flocked to X, formerly known as Twitter, to air their grievances as one person expressed: "Did they drop the mindful moment for them snakes? It's often the only reason why I still watch the show. #Springwatch."

Another social media user demanded: "I want my mindful moment #springwatch @BBCSpringwatch!," while somebody else asked: "What happened to the mindful moment!!! #SpringWatch."

Yet another fan questioned: "What about the mindful moment @BBCSpringwatch?? #springwatch."

A fifth person, who wasn't a fan of the snake content wrote: "Just had to shield my eyes for about 10 minutes to avoid snakes eating baby birds. Enough now! #Springwatch."

While a sixth fumed: "@BBCSpringwatch STOP SHOWING SNAKES. Genuinely anxiety and serious fear is a problem amongst the uk population let alone me! #Springwatch."

However, not everybody felt the same way as one BBC viewer said: "Incredibly interesting watching about our species of snakes on @BBCSpringwatch and how each predates differently!#springwatch @BBCTwo."

Just last week, the show received complaints just minutes into the programme as Megan McCubbin hosted live from Loch Lomond, the largest loch by surface area, and the third deepest.

Viewers seemed distracted by Megan's pronunciation of the word "Loch", as they rushed to social media to complain. One wrote: "I love Springwatch but can Megan please pronounce Loch as it should be and not as she is doing, Lock!"

Another added: "Can someone please teach Megan how to say Loch properly, it’s not a lock!" A third echoed: "Please can someone teach Megan how to pronounce Loch properly."

Springwatch continues on Tuesday at 8pm on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer.
