Gavin & Stacey star 'set to return' for final ever episode 14 years after exit
James Corden and Ruth Jones announced Gavin and Stacey's one-off episode in May, with the special airing over Christmas.
Sheridan Smith is reportedly in talks to return for the final ever episode of Gavin and Stacey, 14 years after she was last seen on the BBC sitcom. The 42-year-old played Ruth 'Rudi' Smith, main character Smithy's sister [played by James Corden] and is said to be included in the final script which has been penned by creators James and Ruth Jones, who also stars as Nessa Jenkins.
A source told The Mirror: "The script for Gavin & Stacey: The Finale includes all of the show’s major players - including Smithy’s sister Rudi. Nothing has been signed and conversations are still very much ongoing - especially as the filming date has not been set.
"But all of the stops are being pulled out to make sure the whole cast are there, and in the coming weeks the production team hope to pin down everyone’s availability."
The source went on to explain that Sheridan and James, 45, are still on friendly terms and recently met up at the Variety Club Awards "so the hope is that she will be able to be a part of it".
"She did not appear in the Christmas Special because her character was not part of that storyline, but it has been a different story this time around," the TV source told the aforementioned publication.

"Everyone is very excited about this episode - it is going to be a phenomenal last hurrah for the series, which is exactly what it deserves."
Express.co.uk have contacted Sheridan's representative for comment.
James revealed the exciting news about the much-loved sitcom's return in May as he took to Instagram to share the update with his fans.
Showing a black and white image of himself with co-star Ruth, James wrote: "Some news… It’s official!!!

The BBC also confirmed the news with a statement saying: "We’ll have: A chicken bhuna, lamb bhuna, prawn bhuna, mushroom rice, bag of chips, keema naan, nine poppadoms and the last ever episode of Gavin and Stacey!!! Coming this Christmas Day on BBC One and iPlayer."
Gavin and Stacey ran for three seasons and a Christmas episode between 2007 and 2010 on the BBC.
It returned in 2019 for a Christmas special which ended on a cliffhanger when Nessa got down on one knee and proposed to Smithy.
