IT may be sacrilege to venture criticism of TV’s most popular show in a decade, but we’re not convinced by this series’ new twist of having contestants audition in front of a baying audience ala Britain’s Got Talent.
We miss those intimate early shows when punters had to wail sans music in a broom cupboard with just the judges’ horrified looks for company.
But this is still one of the best entertainment shows on telly, and tonight’s third audition show contains the usual frock wars between Dannii and Cheryl, the inevitable put-downs from Simon, and the hunk-tastic Dermot O’Leary balancing warmth with incredulity as he interviews wannabe stars
