Inbetweeners fans left ‘cringing’ at ‘uncomfortable to watch’ reunion special
INBETWEENERS fans were excited at the prospect of a TV special dedicated to the sitcom with a huge cult following, however, some were left wanting.
Emily Atack reveals why she isn't in the Inbetweeners reunion
The one-off special called Fwends Reunited saw the four main stars Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, Blake Harrison and James Buckley back together.
It was hosted on Channel 4 by Jimmy Carr in a chat and quiz show style format.
The programme also had guest appearances from the supporting cast of the series which ran from 2008-2010 and spawned two films.
However, viewers expressed disappointment and confusion at the instalment.
Lordy it was awkward & uncomfortable to watch
Some thought the show was “awkward” and branded it “uncomfortable to watch”.
One fan wrote on Twitter: “So glad it wasn't just me and @1909_callum that thought the #inbetweeners reunion show was well weird. Whole thing came across awkward and like it had just been thrown together 5 mins beforehand."
A second declared: “Just watched #FwendsReunited. Lordy it was awkward & uncomfortable to watch. No one of the cast seemed interested & often embarrassed by the show which made them all famous.
“Shame it wasn’t a true reflection of people’s affection for the show. #inbetweenersreunion #inbetweeners.”
“The #inbetweeners is such a brilliant show, it deserved a better 10 yr review, not the shambolic, cut & paste #FwendsReunited. Jimmy Carr was a poor choice for host. A waste of two hours,” a third vented.
Meanwhile, there were others who thought the show was going to be a new episode of the series.
One shared: “Watched an hour of that #FwendsReunited was b****y awful to be fair. Cringe interviews and you could tell no one wanted to be there.
“I thought it was gonna be a new episode how wrong could I be. Peter Andre turned up ffs think that explains everything wrong with it! #Inbetweeners.”
Another tweeted: “I thought this was a new episode, not some random interview show & why Jimmy Carr?? Also very odd @EmAtack isn’t there, more so given that it’s just an interview panel show. So disappointed #inbetweeners #FwendsReunited
“Should have just had neil Oliver doing a show about #inbetweeners i was expecting a new episode!”
“Feel like we was conned, honestly thought it was going to be a episode or a short film, not a get together & a chat! The nation is disappointed! #FwendsReunited #Inbetweeners,” a third opined.
However, there were fans who found the programme enjoyable and they lauded the show.
“#Inbetweeners that special was quite funny and enjoyable. Still got nothing on the series though; that was absolutely hilarious and the dance scene will never get old!” one exclaimed.
Another added: “#inbetweeners enjoyed the show, great to see the cast again, movie number 3 in the pipeline maybe? There is hope.”
“I tried to switch channels 2 minutes in, but found nothing else and ended up enjoying it #FwiendsReunited the #Inbetweeners are always a good laugh aren’t they,” a third chimed in.
