Friends and family have already taken to Twitter to wish Mr Trump a happy birthday.
Ivanka Trump, his eldest daughter and presidential advisor, said: “Happy birthday to my incredible father @realDonaldTrump. I hope that the year to come is your best yet!”
Sean Spicer, the White House Press Secretary, tweeted: “Big day: Donald Trump’s birthday, US Army’s 242nd birthday and Flag Day.”
Melania Trump, the First Lady, last week urged “loyal” friends to sign a card for the President in an email to supporters.
She added: "I need your help to make it a birthday my husband will never forget."

Mrs Trump and her son Baron moved in to the White House on Sunday, but it is unclear how the family will mark the occasion.

Unsurprisingly, anti-Trump campaigners are using the day to send their own birthday message to the President.
Rise and Resist, a group formed after Trump’s election last year, are leading hundreds of protesters to Trump Tower to deliver a plane ticket that will take the President “back to Russia”.
Andy Ratto, a member of the group said: “While he is in DC blowing out the candles on his cake, we’ll be out in the streets saying we hope none of his wishes come true.”
Trump has form for throwing lavish birthday parties.

The Washington Post reported that Trump’s 42nd birthday party featured a “15-foot spaceship” that flashed lasers towards him and his then-wife Ivana.
The Post added: “There was to be a telegram from President Reagan and video birthday cards from Liza Minnelli, Billy Crystal, Dennis Miller and Joe Piscopo.”
In 1996, it is thought the real-estate mogul given a chocolate cake decorated with images of his buildings and a sugar figurine of himself wearing a superman costume.
