Summer may be able to turn up - at last as a red European blast is set to hit Britain for the first time this year.

Britons have been struggling to remember what summer feels like as temperatures so far in June have been unseasonably chilly with some even debating whether to pop their central heating back on.

However all could change for the better as new maps forecast sunshine could well be on the way to bake Britain in just a matter of days as a North African plume could sweep across the UK before the month ends.

The blast of boiling conditions looks set to land towards the end of the month from Thursday June 27 right through the weekend to Tuesday July 2.

Weather expert Jim Dale told the Express that "we are definitely heading towards the best period of weather so far this year".

He said: "High pressure (for so long absent), will place itself over the UK towards the end of the month (25th onwards) and then on into early July.

It will be generally pretty good even before we get there, with many seeing temperatures into low to mid 20’s. We could well see higher temperatures still as the high pressure slips east.

Nothing too silly or extreme for us within all of that, so enjoy whilst you can."

Projections from weather agency WXCharts show a welcome band of reds, oranges and yellows marking high temperatures heading to the UK.

London is expected to experience temperatures as high as 29C while up north, in Manchester and Leeds, locals are expected to experience temperatures of around 26C.

Even overnight the weather maps are still showing warmer temperatures for much of the country, meaning it could be slightly muggy for sleepers in the towns and cities.

The weather is also set to improve this week with fewer showers and a warmer drift for our temperatures forecast.

On Thursday, June 20 WX weather charts show temperatures are set to peak at a warm 24C in the London area while Manchester and Cardiff will enjoy highs of 21C.

The Met Office shares the same optimism. In their weather outlook for Thursday to Saturday the forecaster said: “Largely dry with sunny spells for most, although a few showers possible. Some rain in the north on Friday. Feeling warmer in the sunshine with light winds.”

Temperatures could reach a lovely 24C on Sunday with the weather set to reach 25C on Monday.

The Met Office is forecasting that the weather will feel “increasingly warm as we move into next week” and “there is a chance that this could persist for much of the rest of the period, turning increasingly hot.”
