UK thunderstorm alert as Met Office issues 11-hour warnings - full list of areas affected
The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings across several parts of the UK.
The Met Office has issued an 11-hour thunderstorm warning with several parts of the UK set to be battered by wind and rain.
Multiple yellow weather warnings for storms have been issued for most of Yorkshire, Lancashire, Cumbria and the East Midlands. The thunderstorm warnings are in place for 10 hours, from 11am today until 9pm.
Forecasters warned some areas would see 20-30 mm of rain in one hour.
The Met Office website reads: "Showers developing later on Tuesday morning, becoming heavy with some thunderstorms through the afternoon and early evening.
"Some of these will be slow-moving with lightning, hail and also heavy rain and a few places seeing 20-30 mm of rain in one hour."
According to the forecasters, the thunderstorms could impact the driving conditions and may also lead to damage to a few buildings and structures as lightning strikes.
The Met Office said: "Some short term loss of power and other services is possible. Some flooding of a few homes and businesses possible, leading to some damage to buildings or structures. Delays to train services are possible."
The multiple warnings come as the Brits hope for the summer weather to finally arrive. While the UK is still facing days of thunderstorms and floods, several parts of Europe are reeling under a severe heatwave.
Greece has shut many schools and tourist spots due to the extreme heat.
