The UK is set to be scorched by 31C temperatures today as hot weather maps show a full list of the hottest areas in the nation.

It is predicted that in parts of the nation the mercury will rise into the thirty degrees - though these conditions are set to be short-lived with cooler weather setting in on Thursday.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued yellow heat health alerts across most of England, while NHS leaders warn of 'major disruption' due to the heatwave.

Yesterday saw the hottest temperature of the year recorded in Herstmonceux, near Eastbourne, East Sussex, where it hit 29.4°C.

This surpassed temperatures in popular holiday destinations such as Torremolinos on Spain's Costa Blanca and Kos in Greece, both of which recorded 29°C.

Monday also saw high temperatures, with Wisley, Surrey reaching 28.3°C.

Andrea Bishop, a Met Office spokesman, said: ”Wednesday is a very warm day for many and we're going to have top temperatures of 31°C."

Despite the scorching heat today, the heatwave is expected to be short-lived.

Cooler weather is forecasted to arrive from Thursday as a weakening band of cloud and showery rain moves east and southeast across the country.

Bishop added: "'Wednesday is a very warm day for many and we're going to have top temperatures of 31C.

“We then transition to fresher conditions looking very likely through Thursday as a weakening band of cloud and showery rain runs east, south-east, across the country through the day.

“Although it could still be very warm ahead of this, for example in the east or south east of England.”

Pollen levels remained "very high" yesterday, with humidity around 41 percent, adding to the discomfort for many.

This high pollen count is expected to continue, exacerbating conditions for allergy sufferers.

Yellow health warnings from the UKHSA remain in place, urging vulnerable individuals to take precautions against the heat in all regions of England except the North East.

Heat exhaustion, heatstroke, and dehydration are the main risks during this heatwave.

NHS guidance indicates that older people, particularly those over 75, women, individuals with serious or long-term illnesses, and very young children are most vulnerable.

Age UK advises older individuals to avoid spending too much time outside during the hottest part of the day, from 11 am to 3 pm, and to keep blinds down and windows closed to stay cool indoors.
