A high street institution in one UK city is shutting its doors for good, much to the devastation of locals. It has been in business for over three decades and has cemented a place on the high street, but it recently announced its closure in a social media post. Fresh 'n' Fruity on Cumming Drive in Mount Florida, Glasgow, earned a reputation for great customer service and fresh, high-quality fruit and veg. The store opened in 1993 and was founded by owners Sardar and Shahida Ali, who retired last year.

The store was due to be taken over by the family-run firm Zucchini Greengrocers, but that sale never happened. In a statement on the shop's Facebook page, it announced a sale where everything must go before it brings down the shutters for the final time. "It's with a heavy heart that we announce Fresh 'n' Fruity will be closing its doors permanently on Monday, 13th April," the statement reads. "It has been an incredible journey, and we are so grateful for the support."

It continues: "To say thank you & clear out our remaining stock- we are launching our 20% CLOSING DOWN SALE!!! STARTING TODAY EVERYTHING MUST GO!!!

"We'd like to see you one last time."

The owners have not shared the reasons for their decision to close for good. On Companies House, the firm is still listed as active.

Locals were quick to share their disappointment at the news. One supporter wrote in the comments section of the post: "Aw very sorry to hear this, times are very hard for small business. Wishing you all the very best for the future."

Another shared: "Sorry it hasn't worked out for you."

A third said: "So sorry to hear this and sending love to all those who have kept fresh and fruity going for so many years. It will be missed."

The shop has a near-perfect score when it comes to Google reviews, with locals praising the fresh produce and the customer service they have enjoyed for many years. One review reads: "Fantastic little gem on the south side of Glasgow. Run by a lovely little elderly couple, always fresh produce and they have a varied selection of ethically sourced soaps and other products which make your skin glow."

Another said: "Fabulous shop with a great range of products. Plenty of fresh, in-season fruit and veg, as well as lots of wonderful store cupboard essentials - pasta, rice, pickles, sauces, tea and other goodies. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and the value is fab too. Highly recommend!"
