Pub chain JD Wetherspoon has opened a brand new venue inside a busy shopping centre, complete with a large beer garden and extended bar area.

The new pub, called The Round Coppice, has officially opened its doors at Whiteley Shopping Centre in Fareham following a £1.3million investment.

Built on the site of the former Jurassic Grill restaurant, the venue features a 708 sq ft outdoor beer garden and a 10-metre-long bar, offering plenty of space for customers. It will serve food daily from 8am through to 11pm.

More than 30 jobs have been created as part of the opening, adding to the local economy and bringing new employment opportunities to the area.

Pub manager Lucy Dempsey said she was confident the venue would become a popular addition to the community, describing it as a welcome boost to the local social scene.

The Round Coppice is one of several new openings planned by Wetherspoon this year as the company continues to expand its footprint across the UK. Like many of the chain’s pubs, the new site has been designed to reflect local history. Its name and styling are inspired by the area’s rural past, referencing farmland that dates back to the 1700s.

The expansion comes as the company continues to perform strongly despite wider pressures in the hospitality sector. Wetherspoon previously reported sales of £2.13billion in the year to July 2025, marking a 4.5% increase.

Chairman Tim Martin has said the company remains committed to keeping prices low, even as costs rise across the industry.

The latest opening follows other recent launches, including a new venue in Cramlington, Northumberland, as the pub giant continues to roll out new locations nationwide.

With investment ongoing and new sites opening, fans of the budget pub chain may soon see more venues appearing in shopping centres and town centres across the UK.
