However, many England fans still think that would be a price worth paying for the celebrations of a lifetime.

In one viral video shared by Georgeana Burkett, one England fan insists "not one person in England" will turn up for work on Monday if Gareth Southgate's team beat Spain.

He said: "But then if we get through to the final guess when the final is? Guess what time the final is? Eight o'clock kickoff on Sunday night. A Sunday night!

"Now, that has to be announced as a national Bank Holiday. No one is going to work that next day. Not one person in England. No one. And if you do, your life is boring. You've got no life."

However, not all England fans agree with his assessment. At the time of writing, an Express readers poll shows only 44% think Monday should be a bank holiday, while 56% say they are dead against the idea.

What has Keir Starmer said about Euro 2024 bank holiday?

Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who is set to attend the match in Berlin, has suggested a victory should be marked in some way, but has not committed to a bank holiday.

But he dropped one hint during an interview with ITV News on Thursday. He said: "We should certainly mark the occasion. I don't want to jinx it... We must mark it in some way. But the most important thing is getting it over the line on Sunday."

In a good luck message, Sir Keir, writing to “Gareth and all the England team”, said: “You should all be proud of what you’ve achieved so far, and I hope you can take some strength from the millions at home kicking every ball alongside you.

“You don’t need a running commentary from a politician on what you should or shouldn’t do.

“You’re here not because of luck, but because of your graft and hard work. You’ve earned it. As you did three years ago, you’ve made the country proud.

“Whatever happens, you should know that you have united the country, and we are all behind you.

“So enjoy tonight. I know that up and down the country, we all will.”

Mr Starmer has previously called for extra Bank Holidays for Brits following sporting victories.

When England's Lionesses reached the Women's World Cup final, Starmer called for then-Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to create a new bank holiday.
