A record number of female prison officers have been having sex with male inmates in the UK.

This has resulted in more female officers getting fired over the past three years with twenty-nine getting the boot for romping behind bars compared to just nine between 2017 and 2019.

Fifty out of 124 investigations following tip-offs about alleged “inappropriate” relationships were upheld, Ministry of Justice figures show.

Some had even been sneaking lags into staff-only areas or cutting holes in their uniforms to make sexual acts easier, The Sun reports.

No male screws were busted with female lags but three same-sex relationships were discovered.

Some officers were spared the boot and were suspended or moved to a new role.

Last week Linda De Sousa Abreu, 30, of Fulham, south-west London, pleaded guilty to misconduct after having sex with an inmate in a cell.

The sex tape happened at Wandsworth between June 26-28. The charge states that De Sousa Abreu "wilfully and without reasonable excuse or justification misconducted yourself in a way which amounted to an abuse of the public's trust in the office holder by engaging in a sexual act with a prisoner in a prison cell".

During the X-rated video, which was shared online, De Sousa Abreu's colleagues can be heard on the officer's radio, left on a side table. The clip was filmed by a third person on a mobile phone, who could be heard saying: "Guys we've made history, this is what I'm telling you."

Earlier this year Shania Begum, a female prison officer, who was caught on camera using a store cupboard to have secret meetings and sex with an inmate has been jailed for 16 months.

Their secret rendezvous were rumbled when prison bosses became suspicious and installed a camera which caught them in the act red-handed.

The Prison Service said: “Staff corruption is not tolerated.

“The overwhelming majority of our prison staff are hardworking and honest. We are dedicated to rooting out those who are not.”
