A British TikToker has revealed her favourite travel destination for 2024, dubbing Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as Europe’s "most underrated" city.

Known for its stunning scenery and incredible value, this hidden gem promises an unforgettable experience without the throngs of tourists seen in more popular destinations.

TikTok user @emsbudgettravel, who offers budget travel tips, recently shared her enthusiasm for Sarajevo after visiting nine countries this year.

In her video, she highlighted Bosnia and Herzegovina as one of the cheapest and most beautiful countries she has visited.

Em's recent four-day trip to Bosnia and Herzegovina cost her just £158.44, covering flights, accommodation, food, activities, and transport.

“This is one of the most underrated countries in Europe and one of the cheapest I’ve been to," she said. “We stayed in the capital of Sarajevo, which is a beautiful city and it felt really safe.”

The friendliness of the locals, including bus drivers, left a lasting impression on Em. She described the country as being filled with stunning scenery, including mountains, rivers, lakes, and waterfalls.

One of the trip's highlights was visiting Mostar, a small city about two hours from Sarajevo by train. Mostar is a picturesque town with an iconic Old Bridge (Stari Most), which was featured in the BBC2 program The Misadventures of Romesh Ranganathan as the comedian considered jumping off.

“The city felt so magical and it was the perfect base to explore for hours,” she said. She was particularly fascinated by the local tradition of people jumping off the bridge into the Neretva River.

Ryanair’s new routes to Sarajevo International Airport offer flights as low as £19.99 from London Stansted Airport.

Accommodations are also very affordable, with four-star hotels in Sarajevo costing as little as £45 a night.

Reflecting on her trip, Em expressed a desire to return.

“Overall, it was an amazing trip and I definitely wanted more than the four days I had here,” she shared. “This is somewhere I’ll definitely be revisiting to explore more.”
