Firefighters are tackling the fire at the Grade II listed building in Keighley.

A fire has engulfed a historic building in Yorkshire that was used as the set of Peaky Blinders.

Firefighters are currently battling the blaze at Grade II listed Dalton Mills in Keighley, after rushing to the scene at 7.15am.

Pictures show smoke rising from the scene with fire engines in attendance as 11 crews from Bingley, Keighley, Bradford, Fairweather Green, Shipley, Ilkley, Illingworth, Rawdon, Halifax, Stanningley and Odsal continue to try and put the fire out.

It follows a fire at the same location at 7.20pm on Sunday evening. Six fire crews attended the location with one aerial hose reel used.

Police confirm last night's blaze is being treated as arson

Police have confirmed they are treating last night's fire as arson.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "At 7:37pm today( 9 June), police were contacted by the fire service who were attending a fire at Dalton Mills, Dalton Lane, Keighley, a derelict building that had been extensively damaged by fire previously.

"The circumstances are believed to be suspicious, and the incident is being treated as arson."

Flames have now been extinguished

In an update at 9.30am, a West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said: "The fire is now out and five crews remain at the scene damping down."

'Forty percent of the building involved'

A West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "We received this call at 7.14am.

"This fire is currently on the third and fourth floors of the building, 40 per cent involved in fire.

"Crews are using hose reels and jets to tackle the flames."

Residents are being asked to avoid the area.

Dalton Mill damaged by another blaze two years ago

Dalton Mill was badly damaged by another fire in March 2022.

Two 17-year-olds were subsequently charged with arson after the blaze, which destroyed much of the building.

Three other youths aged 17, 17 and 18, who were arrested at the time, have been released without charge.
