Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have "retreated" from their feud with the Royal Family because of the backlash they received from Harry's memoir, an expert has claimed.

The Duke of Sussex's book was released in January 2023 and sparked a huge reaction due to some of the claims he made.

In the book, Harry says he was physically attacked by his brother Prince William during an argument back in 2019.

Harry also referred to Queen Camilla as "dangerous" and a "villain."

The Duke revealed that his father was the one who allegedly first called him a "spare", as he allegedly said the following after the birth of both his children: "Wonderful! Now you've given me an heir and a spare - my work is done."

While Harry hoped to express his side of the story, the book was met with a negative response from many.

Royal author Pauline Maclaran, professor of marketing and consumer research at Royal Holloway University in London, says this reaction caused Harry and Meghan to "retreat."

She said: "They probably underestimated the backlash, particularly towards Harry's book.

"People read that and although it was a best-seller, it didn't really promote him to any heights in terms of people giving him accolades

"I would imagine all of that would have shocked them but one would presume they have retreated. They have probably retreated to the point that anything they say will get criticised and twisted."

Despite this, some reports still suggest that Meghan is considering whether she could write a book herself.

It has been claimed that she could release a tell-all memoir just as Harry did.

A source told Closer Online: "The word in publishing circles is that everyone's mad to land Meghan's memoirs and the numbers being thrown around are ridiculously high."

They added: "We're talking tens of millions for her authorised biography – it's going to get to the point where she can't say no."

But the source claimed Meghan has "strategically chosen to hold off for the sake of peace".
