Such a wardrobe mishap might ruffle the feathers of the fashion-conscious, but Queen Mary of Denmark proved that grace can outshine even the most strangest of fashion decisions - such as wearing a top backwards.

Eagle-eyed royal fashion fans spotted Queen Mary wearing one of Princess Kate's favourite designers at a 50th birthday party this weekend for Baroness Helle Reedtz-Thott.

Turning heads in hot pink, Queen Mary wore a silk top with bow detail from Erdem, costing £795 and a matching floral pink and black pencil skirt, also priced at £795 by the same designer.

However, instead of placing the loose bow at the front of the outfit as suggested by the designer, Queen Mary opted for a fashion risk, and placed the long bow behind her, making some fans question if she was wearing the top backwards.

Despite this, many fans believed she wore looked "beautiful", claiming the entire outfit was "phenomenal".

On Instagram, one royal fashion fan wrote: "Love how she’s wearing the top backwards for interest and drama. Beautiful!"

User @yoya.sarabi wrote: "This is why Mary is one of the most stylish royals... wearing the bow backwards is so chic! And the shoes."

A third stated: "Beautiful color!! Also love the scarf wearing to the back of the blouse!"

Another said: "Love this bold colour on the gorgeous Mary! This is a striking Erdem set and the accessories are gorgeous."

The Danish Queen also matched the outfit with pink sandals from Aquazurra and accessorise with gold and diamond bracelets.

Erdem Moralıoğlu is a Britsh fashion designer. He was born in Canada to a Turkish father and an English mother. His eponymous brand describes itself as an "independent house of bold fashion" creating clothes that are "poetic and rigorous, ageless and timeless, powerful and versatile."

Both Princess Kate and Meghan Markle have worn the designer many times. But, when Meghan joined the Royal Family it's claimed Kate was given priority, despite the fact both women were longtime customers.

The Telegraph reported "Kate always appeared to get first dibs on designers" including on Erdem which was "one of Meghan’s absolute favourites".

It is also popular with more than just the two royals, as Duchess Sophie and Princess Eugenie have both worn the designer in the past, wearing the signature floral print.

A-list celebrities have also flocked to the brand including Zendaya, Scarlett Johansson, Keira Knightley, and Kate Bosworth but Erdem's designs are also known for their fearless approach to patterns.
