Lady Louise Windsor is tipped to have a "quasi-official royal role" in the future, according to a royal commentator.

The eldest child of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh is currently studying at St Andrews University in Scotland, while her royal future still remains unclear.

Louise and her brother, James Earl of Wessex do not hold any royal titles, however, according to royal historian Gareth Russell, she may step into a more prominent role in the future.

He told GB News: "Certainly Lady Louise has already been at some private royal events where she has met with guests and members of the public.

"So I wouldn't be surprised at all if we see Lady Louise take on some patronages, whether it's in a private or a quasi-official role, we'll have to wait and see.

"But I would be very, very surprised when the time comes if she doesn't take on some of them in a private capacity as well."

Louise's mother, Duchess Sophie, previously spoke about her children bearing no HRH titles.

She told the Times in 2020: "We try to bring them up with the understanding they are very likely to have to work for a living. Hence we made the decision not to use HRH titles.

"They have them and can decide to use them from 18, but I think it’s highly unlikely."

Meanwhile, the Wessex children's cousins, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, may not be working royals either but they both have royal titles and they hold several patronages in a private capacity.

Lady Louise's last major appearance was at Trooping the Colour back in June.

She has also been snapped taking part in carriage driving competitions in Norfolk and Windsor.
