Queen Elizabeth II appeared on the  famous Buckingham Palace balcony for the last time with some of her closest family members just months before her death.

The late queen, who passed away on September 8, 2022, seemed overwhelmed by the public's love as she stepped out onto the balcony overlooking The Mall for one final time on June 5, 2022, as part of her Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Although appearing slightly frail and with a walking stick, the late queen was all smiles as she was surrounded by her nearest and dearest including the then Prince of Wales, Camilla, Prince William, Princess Kate and their three children.

It is believed that the late Queen, who was dressed in bright green, had not been feeling well in the lead-up to the balcony appearance, but had "convinced her" to come out to see the public and the love they had for her. As she waved to the crowds, she appeared happy but emotional.

Her great grandson Prince George appeared to be beaming with pride as she took in the hundreds of thousands of people lining The Mall just hoping to catch a glimpse of the monarch during her 70-year celebrations.

It was the last time she appeared on the balcony before her death at Balmoral.

Queen Elizabeth and the then Prince of Wales shared one of their final public outings together on the balcony at the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

At the time, a source told the Daily Mail: "The Queen only decided that she would go to London about three hours before the balcony appearance.

"She was not feeling brilliant but the [former] Prince of Wales had called her and told her [that] she really ought to come if she could."

He reportedly told her how many people were waiting to see her, with thousands lining The Mall outside the palace.
