Strictly's Nick Knowles looks unrecognisable as he dances by himself in new video

DIY SOS' Nick Knowles is one of 15 celebrities appearing on the 22nd season of Strictly Come Dancing.

Nick Knowles caught taking cigarette breaks during Strictly training

Nick Knowles appears to be hard at work ahead of his Strictly Come Dancing debut this weekend. The TV personality was caught today practising his steps outside of a rehearsal studio while smoking a cigarette.

On Monday (September 9), video footage captured Nick, 61, pumping his arms and attempting to nail his footwork ahead of Saturday’s introductory showcase on BBC. While outside, he chatted with ballroom dancer Luba Mushtuk before the pair re-entered the rehearsal space.

The clip follows the DIY SOS host’s confession that the intensive dancing drills have left him “exhausted”. He also admitted he had to “crawl” to his vehicle after a particularly arduous day on the dancefloor.

According to Nick, who is engaged to businesswoman Katie Dadzie, 34, because he’s so tired from dance practice, he doesn’t have the stamina to let the so-called ‘Strictly curse’ affect him. “[The curse] is not an issue. I barely had the energy to walk out to the car afterwards," he confided in The Mirror.

“Honestly, we did a day’s training yesterday and I literally crawled out to the car and sat with my feet in a bath of cold water for an hour when I got home.” Meanwhile, the former I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star claimed he’d embarked on a serious health kick ahead of his strenuous Strictly regime.

“I’ve lost 12 kilos. And my mind, which is about 2lb! The main thing was to be fit enough to be able to do it, because it is unbelievably hard work,” the father-of-three explained.

Nick added that he believes training for the reality competition is one of the “more difficult” things he’s done in his life but that he has been enjoying being whipped into shape.

“The first thing I’ve got to do is try not to look like the Honey Monster on the dance floor,” he added. “This is a whole new adventure.”

On Saturday, the 15 professionals hoping to guide their celebrities to victory will be revealed.

The series 22 launch show, hosted by Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, will also feature a tribute to Welsh dancer Amy Dowden, who missed last year’s contest due to her battle with breast cancer.

Moreover, the judging panel will return for another sensational year of competition, with Shirley Ballas starring as head judge.

Alongside her will be Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and Craig Revel Horwood.

The BBC confirmed that the launch show will be opened with the professionals boarding a party bus before diving into a high-energy showcase choreographed by creative director Jason Gilkison.

Tune into Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday at 7.20pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
