Royal Ascot: Carole Middleton borrows Kate's dress in June

Prince William and his mother-in-law, Carole Middleton, had some fun in the sun earlier in the week, when attending Royal Ascot.

Royal Ascot is a week-long event, which combines horse racing and mingling, with eveyrone wearing their Sunday's best.

Princess Kate’s parents, Carole and Michael, came out to join in the festivities and support the Royal Family, which caught one royal watcher’s eye.

Jane Barr, author of From Berkshire to Buckingham, wrote in her newsletter: “I feel like royal-watching is coming back to life after many months of hibernation.”

She added: “Ascot got some Middleton sparkle this week when Kate’s parents Michael and Carole made an appearance in the royal enclosure on Day 2.”

There was one moment that stood out to her most: “At one point, Carole and William were chatting to a jockey, and apparently, Carole’s heels were getting stuck. William was ready with a helping hand.”

It wasn't just Wiliam, the jockey also attended to Carole, whose heels were sinking into the artifical grass.

In addition to William and the Middletons, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh came out for the event, and there was a Sarah Ferguson spotting, who was joined by her daughters, Beatrice and Eugenie.

Mike Tindall was in tow, and didn’t miss the opportunity to give William a big bear hug

Ms Barr especially enjoys Royal Ascot because it is both a public event but also a private one.

She said: “So we get to see the family interacting with each other in a more private capacity. The cousins were having a great time together laughing and teasing.”

Kate attended Trooping the Colour earlier this month, but it was not meant to be an official return to work for the senior royal. She is still on medical leave undergoing preventive chemotherapy.

And while Kate couldn’t attend Royal Ascot, Carole and Michael were there to represent.

“I love when the Middlestons mix with the royals at Ascot. Those who followed Kate’s story from the start are still savouring the success era, I guess, or at least I am!”
