Prince Harry is reportedly on a mission to establish a 'permanent' base in the UK, with a royal commentator suggesting he's yearning for a foothold back in his homeland.

Since stepping away from the royal spotlight in 2020 and setting up life in the US with Meghan Markle, the Duke of Sussex has been without an official UK residence following their eviction from Frogmore Cottage last year. Now, it appears Harry is eager to secure a British home base.

Speaking to the Mirror, Royal author Tom Quinn shared insights: "As time goes by, Harry misses some aspects of his old life in the UK. Inevitably, the honeymoon period where everything in the States is new and exciting is coming to an end and Harry is looking back at the past through rose-tinted spectacles."

Quinn further revealed: "He misses his Old Etonian and army friends, many of whom have not visited as they don't get on with Meghan. Harry is determined to find his own permanent home in the UK, which is partly why he's continuing his legal action to get the British taxpayer to pay for his security."

The revelations follow Prince Harry's heartfelt admission in his 2023 tell-all book 'Spare' about the deep sorrow he felt upon leaving Frogmore Cottage, his erstwhile Royal abode within the grounds of Windsor Castle. The residence was bestowed upon them by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2019, and the Sussexes independently funded its lavish refurbishments after initially drawing on public funds, which they subsequently reimbursed.

Yet, their tenure in the five-bedroom dwelling was fleeting; by the close of 2019, they had declared their intent to step back from Royal duties and by 2020, Frogmore Cottage was no longer their home.

In 'Spare', Harry recounts a poignant moment at Frogmore Cottage following Prince Philip's funeral, as he awaited a meeting with his father Charles and brother William. Alone in the cottage, he was struck by a wave of sadness, realising that what was once envisioned as his 'forever home' had become just another transient stop in his life.

His words in the memoir resonate: "Once upon a time, this was going to be my forever home. Instead it had proved to be just another brief stop."

Amidst these personal reflections, Prince Harry is also embroiled in an ongoing legal tussle with the UK Home Office. He has recently escalated his fight over the decision to downgrade his security arrangements when in the UK, taking his case to the Court of Appeal after a High Court judge dismissed his initial challenge.

This legal wrangle began when the Home Office, which oversees policing, revoked his entitlement to automatic police protection during his stays in the UK in February 2020.
