Royal enthusiasts are treated to a delightful display of familial affection every year at Trooping the Colour, celebrating the monarch's official birthday. The event peaks with the Royal Family's Buckingham Palace balcony appearance for the RAF flypast, where their interactions become a highlight for fans.

While King Charles and other key royals are often in the public eye, this grand occasion also offers a glimpse of the Windsor youngsters, who invariably captivate onlookers with their exuberance. A charming instance was when Prince George was overheard using a sweet nickname for Princess Kate, caught by an eagle-eyed lip reader.

This tender moment unfolded during 2022's Trooping the Colour, marking Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee. As George joined his mother en route to Horse Guards Parade, lip reader Jeremy Freeman detected the endearing term.

Dressed sharply, George greeted the audience before affectionately referring to Kate as "Momma". It appears that the fondness for nicknames is mutual, with Kate affectionately dubbing her firstborn and heir to the throne with a quintessentially British nickname: PG tips.

Prince George's diminutive moniker neatly aligns with his second-in-line-to-the-throne initials, even further shortened to 'Tips' on occasion, reports the Mirror.

Royal insiders suggest the family frequently use nicknames, drawing parallels to Prince Philip's own epithet 'P. P.', a cheeky reference to his initials.

An insider told The Sun about the reason behind the Royal Family's affection for whimisical aliases. "The royals are not very good at communicating with one another so this is one way around it. Nicknames are a way of taking the family tension out of things," they revealed.

"They can also be a rather childlike family. They love to play games and they give each other silly presents. I think it's because they have to be so earnest in their public lives."
