Prince Harry and Meghan Markle warned of facing 'big problem' over UK return

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were issued a warning over their possible return to royal life by a royal commentator.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would be facing a "big problem" if they chose to return to the UK as working royals, a royal commentator has claimed.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have seen their popularity in the UK and the US continuously plummet ever since they quit the Royal Family and moved to the US in 2020. A recent poll by YouGov, published last month, saw them emerge as the least popular royal couple.

Of the two, Meghan Markle is viewed slightly less favourably than her husband, with 22 percent holding a positive view of her compared to 29 percent of Harry.

Now a royal commentator has claimed that even if the Sussex couple were able to resolve their ongoing feud with the royals, King Charles's hands would be "tied" as making them working royals again would crash with the public's unfavourable view of them.

GB News royal correspondent Cameron Walker told the outlet's podcast The Royal Record: "In terms of becoming working members of the Royal Family again, I don't think it would be up to King Charles - look at the opinion polls of Harry and Meghan on both sides of the Atlantic.

"Let's just talk about the UK for now. They consistently poll, since the publication of the Netflix series and Harry's memoir "Spare", at the very bottom... of the Royal Family - apart from Prince Andrew, who's slightly below them.

"That's a big problem, because if they become working members of the Royal Family again, it's taxpayers - it's us as the public - who would have to pay for their security, the staff travel, and all the rest of it."

Mr Walker added that he finds it unlikely Meghan would ever want to be a working royal again after she "clearly disliked it so much last time", and said:

"I think it's very sad that Prince Harry has effectively lost most physical contact with his nearest and dearest, even if there's the occasional video call to Montecito."

It comes amid claims that Prince Harry is looking to buy a "secluded Georgian house" in the UK, close to King Charles's Highgrove estate because he wants his family to spend more time in his home country.

Royal author Tom Quinn told the Mirror that Harry is faced with a "huge problem" as he has no base in the UK, after having been evicted from Frogmore Cottage last year, following the release of his bombshell memoir, Spare.

He added that the prince is hoping to "the kind of property his father has with Highgrove", saying: "With no chance of returning to any of the houses in the gift of his family, Harry has looked at buying the kind of secluded Georgian house in its own grounds that his father has at Highgrove in Gloucestershire."
