Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made a "deliberate choice" for their recent trip to Nigeria, a royal expert has claimed.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited the West African nation last month to champion mental health initiatives for soldiers and empower young people as they celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.

The couple chose to take their good friend Misan Harriman as their official photographer for the duration of the trip.

The 46-year-old posted a series of snaps from the couple's trip on his social media accounts.

Now a royal commentator touched down on the Sussex couple's "deliberate move" to pick Mr Harriman which shows they want to "control the narrative".

Royal author Gareth Russell told GB News: "The Sussexes have shown themselves to be very concerned with controlling the narrative.

"Taking their own photographer allows them a great deal of control over what images are circulated on images they choose.

"I do think the choice of photographer was a deliberate one."

Among the images posted by the photographer was one of Prince Harry visiting a military veteran at the Amputee hospital in Kaduna.

Mr Harriman captioned the post: "A profoundly powerful moment today at the Amputee hospital in Kaduna. The Duke of Sussex with a Nigerian military veteran. Photographed by me."

The image received nearly 12,000 likes, with many royal fans claiming it was reminiscent of the late Princess Diana comforting AIDS victims in hospitals during the 1980s and 1990s.

One of the comments on the post said: "In tears. Diana’s son. Thank you for sharing this stunning photo. This brought right (sic) back to my childhood, seeing his Mom. So proud of who and what “H” has become and so grateful to see a glimpse of it.

"Take care of each other, happy to know there’s someone safe and caring, documenting their trip. Wishing you all the best."
