Queen Camilla recently had a "fantastic" secret night at the theatre with her five grandchildren, it has emerged.

The Queen joined her husband, King Charles on Wednesday for a tour of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (Rada) in central London, which has trained leading actors from Sir Anthony Hopkins to Imelda Staunton and Tom Hiddleston.

During the outing, Camilla spoke with actor and former Rada student, Daniel Mays, who spent around 12 months playing Nathan Detroit in the musical Guys And Dolls.

The actor asked the Queen about taking her grandchildren to see the production at London’s Bridge Theatre, to which she replied: "It was fantastic."

Mr Mays said afterwards: "She loved it and she took all her grandkids and they said they had the most incredible night."

He added: "I left about three months ago and towards the end of my run she came with all her grandkids, we were only told on the day there would be an important royal visit, so we were wondering who it was going to be."

He joked: "It's an immersive production and we were wondering if she was going to be in her seat or standing up.

"It's the longest thing and most exhausting thing I've ever been part of - but a great time."

Wednesday's visit marked the couple's first major public event since Rishi Sunak called a summer general election on July 4, as the monarchy has postponed any engagements "which may appear to divert attention or distract from the election campaign".

Charles and Camilla watched a scene from House Of Ife by Beru Tessema, a play about a family dealing with the death of the eldest son, and met the cast afterwards.

They later toured Rada's workshops where sets and backdrops are designed, built and painted by the students.

The monarch was named as Rada's new patron earlier this month, succeeding Queen Elizabeth II who had been its figurehead for 70 years.

Who are Queen Camilla's Grandchildren?

Apart from her five step-grandchildren from King Charles, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, Queen Camilla also has five grandchildren of her own.

They come from her two children, Tom Parker Bowles and Laura Lopes, whom she shares with her first husband, Andrew Parker Bowles.

Tom has got two children, Lola, 16, and son, Frederick, 14 and Laura has three children – Eliza, 16, and 15-year-old twins, Gus and Louis, with husband Harry.

Lola is the eldest grandchild of Camilla and was born in 2007. She seems to have a very close relationship with her grandmother as the Queen previously revealed to Vogue: "I do Wordle every day with my granddaughter."

Eliza, born in 2008, is the only other granddaughter of Queen Camilla and one of her better-known grandchildren after she attended the Prince and Princess of Wales's wedding in 2011.

Louis and Gus were born in 2009 to Laura and Harry Lopes. The duo served as Pages of Honour at their grandmother's Coronation last May. Camilla has previously said that she texts with her grandkids, stating: "It’s very nice getting a text. We learn from very young people and they learn from us, too. That’s the way it’s always been."

Freddy, born 2010, is the Queen's youngest grandchild. He joined his cousins Louis and Gus as a Page of Honour at the King and Queen's Coronation.
