King Charles is 'unknown and misunderstood' says Mayer
Charles, who celebrated his 74th birthday on November 14, became King on September 8. Speaking on Australia's Sunrise, royal author, Catherine Mayer, author of the renewed version of Charles: The Heart of King, discussed the longest-reigning heir to the throne, claiming that despite his extensive period of time in the royal spotlight, Charles is often "misunderstood" as a senior royal.
Speaking of her new book, which was originally released in 2015, Ms Mayer said: "I think one of the things that surprised me was his very lonely existence.
"[When] you think of somebody like that, who lives in Palaces [and] always surrounded by people as being somebody with a lot of connections [and] a lot of social life, if you like.
"You always see him in course of duties, and in fact, it's a very isolating existence."
She added: "He's also a lot funnier than you think, mostly intentionally, not always."

She continued: "He's created his own philosophy over the years.
"That is a lot stranger and more interesting than you might expect.
"I think, in many ways, the most surprising thing about him is that this is a man who's been in the public eye for all of these decades and yet he remains surprisingly unknown and misunderstood."
On September 8, 2022, Charles, then aged 73, became the oldest person to accede to the British throne.
