Years before marrying Prince Charles on July 29, 1981, Diana Frances Spencer grew up near the Royal Family. But a new documentary has shared the future Princess of Wales called Her Majesty by her nickname as a child.
ITV’s ‘Diana’s Decades’ delved into the life of the Princess of Wales, including her early years living in Sandringham, Norfolk.
During the documentary, a narrator discussed Diana’s upbringing and shared how she used the affectionate nickname despite not being a royal.
They said: “Lady Diana was born into a world of large country houses, set in rural estates.
“She grew up in Park House, practically next door to the Queen, who she called Aunt Lilibet.”

Her Majesty gave herself the nickname ‘Lilibet’ as a child, as she was too young to pronounce her own name.
King George VI took up his daughter’s nickname, and was once quoted as saying: “Lilibet is my pride.”
Prince Philip, the late Duke of Edinburgh, also called Her Majesty by the nickname.
Experts have noted the Queen left a note on Philip’s casket during his funeral on April 17, and signed it as ‘Lilibet’.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle paid tribute to both Her Majesty and the Princess of Wales by naming their daughter Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.
The Sussex royals said in a statement of their daughter’s name: "Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet.
“Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honour her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales."
Daisy McAndrew, NBC News royals commentator and journalist, told TODAY Monday the name is “very personal” to Her Majesty.
