Kate would like the royal brothers to heal their painful split, the royal author believes. However, she is understanding of Prince William's "reluctance" to put the past behind him, Ms Levin added.

The royal biographer told OK! magazine: "Catherine comes from a very stable, warm and loving family and she wants that for everybody around her.

"She wants William to make amends with Harry, but understands his reluctance.

"I’m sure Harry will be missing Catherine too – they had a great bond and he once even described her as the sister he always wished he had."

Kate was highly praised in April when she appeared to play a key role in breaking the ice between the brothers.

Following Prince Philip's funeral on April 17, Kate was spotted starting to speak to her brother-in-law just outside of St George's Chapel.

Her husband was then spotted speaking with the Dean of Windsor but, after he was done, she drew him in the conversation too.

As the trio was walking up to Windsor Castle to attend a small reception hosted by the Queen, Kate swiftly left the brothers to speak alone and joined the nearby Countess of Wessex.

It was widely reported, once at the castle, William and Harry were joined by their father Prince Charles in their first face-to-face conversations in one year.

Another royal commentator believes Kate, due to her close relationship with her beloved siblings, has been attempting to play the role of peacemaker in the Firm.

Royal expert Camilla Tominey claimed Kate was still keen to "bury the hatchet" with Meghan and Prince Harry after their landmark interview with Oprah Winfrey in March.

Ms Tominey wrote in the Telegraph's magazine Stella: "Having grown up being close to her own siblings, Pippa, 37, and James, 34, the Duchess remained keen to bury the hatchet even after the interview aired to a global audience of millions, seemingly for the sake of two-year-old Archie’s relationship with his cousins.

"'Her natural instinct is to try to smooth things over,' added the source.

"It recently emerged that the Cambridges can count their meetings with their nephew 'easily on one hand' and that the cousins spent very little time together before the Sussexes moved to Montecito, near Los Angeles, last year."

During the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's interview with Ms Winfrey, Meghan spoke about Kate.

The Duchess dismissed claims she had left Kate in tears before her wedding, saying rather the reverse had happened and she was the one who cried.

However, Meghan added, Kate had since apologised to her.

Prince Harry also spoke to Ms Winfrey about his relationship with Prince William, saying it is one "of space" at the moment.

The Sussexes also launched damaging allegation of neglect and racism against the Firm.

The latter prompted Prince William to respond to a reporter's question during a royal engagement in London.

Asked whether the Royal Family was racist, the Duke of Cambridge, visibly upset, replied: "We are very much not a racist family".

Following the funeral on April 17, Prince Harry spoke again about his family.

Appearing on the podcast Armchair Expert, he appeared to criticise Prince Charles's parenting skills as he said parents should try to break the cycle of pain and suffering they themselves had experienced.

And during the docu-series on mental health he co-created with Ms Winfrey, The Me You Can't See, he accused the Firm of "total neglect" when he was asking for help in the wake of a wave of online abuse his family was experiencing.
