Camilla enjoys a punch-packing rum on Caribbean tour
THE Duchess of Cornwall got a shock yesterday after sipping a glass of extra strong rum during her Caribbean tour.
Prince Charles and Camilla in St Vincent and the Grenadines
Camilla's eyes widened as she tasted the spirit, which had 40 per cent alcohol content and was served straight with no ice. The 71-year-old said: "Blimey! That packs a punch!" Camilla and Prince Charles were visiting St Vincent and the Grenadines as part of their 11-day trip to the Caribbean.
After visiting a market in the capital, Kingstown, the royal couple chatted to stall holders.
The duchess said to vendor Michker Edwards: "I might have to try one. Is it very strong?"
She then chose a passion fruit flavour... and found it very strong indeed.
Charles and Camilla packed in 11 engagements during their six-hour visit to the island nation, whose prime minister campaigned unsuccessfully in a 2009 referendum to replace the Queen with an elected president.
Charles went to a mangrove park and spoke of his passion for conservation and recycling.
And Camilla joined a roundtable discussion on domestic violence and met women entrepreneurs.
The couple are also set to travel to Cuba, becoming the first members of the Royal Family to go there on official business.
