'Proud' Theresa May BLASTS Donald Trump for attacking the NHS
THERESA May rebuked Donald Trump yesterday after he claimed the NHS is “going broke”. The Prime Minister said she was “proud of having an NHS free at the point of delivery” after the US President’s attack on Britain’s health service.
'Broke and not working': Donald Trump hits out at the NHS
After he had enjoyed a traditional Superbowl party on Sunday, Mr Trump tweeted yesterday that “thousands of people” were marching against the NHS because it was “not working”.
This was believed to be a reference to a Save The NHS march on Downing Street on Saturday, demanding an increase in funding.
Mr Trump’s comments sparked a furious backlash in the UK and further strained his relationship with Mrs May.
Last November the Prime Minister reproached the President for retweeting a video from far-right group Britain First and in January the President cancelled a visit to open the new US embassy in London because of planned protests.
A spokesman for Mrs May said that Mr Trump was wrong because NHS funding is at a “record high” and was getting an extra £2.8billion this year.
Theresa May rebuked President Trump after he attacked the NHS saying it is 'going broke'
NHS may have challenges but I’m proud to be from the country that invented universal coverage
In his Tweet, Mr Trump weighed in to the debate in the US about healthcare reform, criticising Democrats pushing for a universal health system.
It appears he may have been inspired by former Ukip leader Nigel Farage, who told America’s Fox News that the NHS was “at breaking point”.
The President said: “The Democrats are pushing for Universal Health Care while thousands of people are marching in the UK because their U system is going broke and not working.”
This earned a rebuttal from Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt who tweeted: “I may disagree with claims made on that march but not ONE of them wants to live in a system where 28 million people have no cover.
The Democrats are pushing for Universal HealthCare while thousands of people are marching in the UK because their U system is going broke and not working. Dems want to greatly raise taxes for really bad and non-personal medical care. No thanks!

Jeremy Hunt said he is proud to live in the country that created the universal coverage
“NHS may have challenges but I’m proud to be from the country that invented universal coverage – where all get care no matter the size of their bank balance.”
Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn tweeted: “Wrong. People were marching because we love our NHS and hate what the Tories are doing to it.
“Healthcare is a human right.”
Studies have shown that Britain’s health system is better value than in America, where they spend more than twice the amount of money per person.
